CLASS OF 2011

Joshua Ekstedt was named the "Sophomore Engineering Student of the Year" at Georgia Southern University.  He has the highest GPA in the Sophomore class of a perfect 4.0 and he's only completed one semester of college!  Way to Go ELCA Alumni!

CLASS OF 2010

Cara Gainey, Class of 2010, is sophomore at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.  In her first month of college, Cara was elected by her peers to chair and direct an original freshman musical.  After six months of storyboards, music, scripts and rehearsals, her cast successfully performed this musical in a competition in February.  The show was fabulous!  Cara also passed her first musical jury on clarinet with top marks and continues to perform well instrumentally.  Cara was elected by her peers as Freshman Homecoming Princess in Fall 2010 and as the Freshman Student Government Vice-President in the winter.  She is now serving as Student Government President.  Cara is an active member in the Pierce Leadership Group and a PATH member, both of which are leadership groups on campus.  Cara was the only freshman asked to participate on the Wesleyan College 175th Anniversay Alumni Celebration Planning Committee.  She was a tour guide on the trolley for visitors attending the event in April. She continues to serve her community through outreach activities in Macon. 

CLASS OF 2009

Ameerah Moseley, Class of 2009, is a junior at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA.  She is a Political Science major.  This summer Ameerah participated in the Ronald H. Brown Law School Prep Program at St. John's University's Law School in Queens, New York.  The RHB program is a nine-week program divided into two parts.  The first three weeks Ameerah completed law school courses.  Each student had to complete a legal writing proof for their Legal Writing class, and Ameerah was given an award for the Best Legal Writing Proof at the culmination of the program.  The last six weeks of the program Ameerah interned with the Honorable Judge Ulysses Leverett at the Queens Civil Housing Court, and also interned at the New York State Attorney General's Office in Manhattan, New York.  Upon graduating from Spelman College, Ameerah has aspirations of attending Columbia Law School to earn her Juris Doctor. 

Hope Rush, Class of 2009, has been named to the list of 25 finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year Award.  Hope is a freshman pitcher/designated player for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and has been the receipient of the ACC Pitcher of the Week Award on two different occasions.  Way to go Hope!

Matt Barlow, Class of 2009, traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, the summer of 2010, as part of a study abroad program through UGA.  The program, Global L.E.A.D. combines Leadership, Education, Adventure, and Diplomacy to make this a holistic experience for the student.  Some of the highlights of the trip included:  shark cage diving, bungee jumping, safari trips and traveling to Cape Point-the southernmost tip of Africa and sitting atop Table Mountain for the best view in the Southern Hemisphere.  Matt experienced a guided tour of Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned (the tour guide was Nelson Madela's cell mate.) He also served alongside street children in the slums outside of Cape Town.  They had an opportunity to hear leaders from around the world and had access to leadership models and service learning opportunities. 

CLASS OF 2008

Grace Lee, Class of 2008, is a sophomore at Georgia State University.  Her major is Public Policy, with concentration in Non-Profit Leadership.  Her aspirations include attending Georgetown University to obtain a Masters in Foreign Service and to become an international ambassador for The United Nations or UNICEF.  She is very involved at Georgia State as a member of Jumpstarts Corps, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Miss Freshman 2009 Homecoming Candidate, President of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, member of the Honors Program and member of the Diversity Free Council.  Next school year Grace will be SGA Senator for Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, a Model United Nations member, and a VISA Leader for international students. 

CLASS OF 2007

Brady Howard, Class of 2007, was ordained into full time ministry Sunday evening, July 31 at Glen Haven Baptist Church in McDonough.  Brady graduated from Luther Rice Seminary and is Pastor of Student Ministries at Glen Haven.  He also leads the Middle School Ministry and student worship on Wednesday evening.  Brady is a fine example of how God "Empowers our students to make an impact for Him."  We are proud of all that God has done in his life and how He is using Brady in full time ministry.

Alex Teate, Class of 2007, is a junior at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia and is majoring in Sports Management.  He is very involved in the Christian Campus Ministry along with other ELCA grads, Brittany Kelly and Bradley Eady.  Alex left on January 29, 2010 for a study abroad program to Chile through Globalscope Ministries and will be there until around July 20, 2010.  While there Alex will be taking classes at one of the local colleges, Universidad de Catholica, which is considered the Harvard of Chile.  Alex experienced the recent earthquake and the devastation that followed, but praise God he and his fellow classmates were not injured.  They have also done some projects in the community helping clean up play grounds, cleaning up after the earthquake, and working in the Campus ministry called El Oasis!

Wedding bells are ringing for Amanda Lovins, Class of 2007.  She and her fiance, Kurtis Johnson will be married on July 31, 2010 in McDonough, Georgia.  Kurtis will graduate in May from Atlanta Christian College with a Music Ministry degree while Amanda is a senior at Georgia State University.

Jana Singletary, Class of 2007, is pursuing a degree in Interior Design from the University of Georgia.  She plans on graduating in May 2011 and will then pursue a career in Commercial Design.  Jana has accepted an internship for the Summer 2010 with Facilitee, a design firm here in Atlanta.  She has been involved in the Baptist Collegiate Ministries at UGA and has participated in mission trips to Texas, New York City and in Athens, Georgia. 

Luke Caison, Class of 2007, is a junior at Georgia Southern University and plans on graduating in May 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in History.  He is in the U.S. Army and is a member of the Eagle Battalion ROTC Program at Georgia Southern.  Upon graduation, he will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and will serve a total of 8 years.

Jason Stott, Class of 2007, is a Candidate for Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.  He has been accepted into the Georgia Tech Civil Engineering Master's Program and is currently taking two graduate courses.  Jason is in the top 1/8th of the Junior Class and qualifies for Faculty Honors and Dean's List.  Jason has been a member of GT Cheerleading for 2 years.  He has accepted an Internship with Pinkerton & Laws for the summer of 2010 working in construction management, and he will begin a co-op with Georgia Power in the fall of 2010. 

CLASS OF 2006

Nathaniel and Mandie Huggins Maddox graduated with high honors from Samford University in 2010 and were married a week later.  They moved to Princeton, New Jersey in the fall to persue their masters degrees; Nathaniel to attend Princeton Theological Seminary and Mandie, Kean University.  Nathaniel is working on his masters in theology and Mandie is enjoying learning to be an Occupational Therapist.  As a first year student, Nathaniel became involved in the Princeton Theological Review and is now the Managing Editor.  Our prayers continue to be with this young couple as they grow in their faith and in favor with their peers. 

Wedding bells are ringing for Christian White, Class of 2006, and Kimmie Shoemaker, Class of 2006.  Their wedding is planned for June 4, 2010.  Christian will graduate from Truett-McConnell College in May and Kimmie will graduate from Samford University in May as well.  After their wedding, they will relocate to North Carolina where Christian will begin seminary at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Venice Jones, Class of 2006, joined the Navy in 2007 and left for Chicago to the Navy Training Center.  Venice served in Iraq for 6 months with a Medical Support Unit. He has been stationed in Japan, but is returning in April 2010 to San Diego, California to finish his 4-year Medical Program with the Navy. He will then go to Officer's School to finish his education in becoming a Medical Doctor or a Physician's Assistant.  We appreciate his service to our country!

Aaron Jones, Class of 2006, will graduate from Georgia College & State University in May 2010 with a BS degree in Biology.  He is planning to continue his education in the medical field. 

Zack Singletary, Class of 2006, will graduate in May 2010 from Middle Georgia College with a degree in Air Traffic Management.  He will then pursue a second degree in Logistics by taking a few additional classes while waiting to hear from the FAA about employment. 

Amanda Hudgins, Class of 2006, will graduate with honors from Kennesaw State University on May 13, 2010.  She majored in Psychology and minored in Statistics.  She will be attending Kennesaw State University for her graduate degree in Statistics beginning in the fall of 2010.

Kris Yasinski, Class of 2003 is married to Jodi Tellez Yasinski.  They have a 3 yr old daughter, Mackenzie, and a baby boy due in May 2010.  Kris is currently working for the Henry County Fire Department and is attending Georgia Perimeter College to obtain a degree in Fire Management.  They recently returned to church at ELFBC and are looking forward to reconnecting with the ELCA and ELFBC family!

CLASS OF 2002

Jennifer Green, Class of 2002, will graduate from Mercer University School of Medicine in May 2010 with her Doctorate of Medicine.  After graduation, Jennifer will move to Greeneville, South Carolina to begin a 4 year Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Greeneville Memorial Hospital.  Congratulations and Best Wishes from ELCA!

Erica Ray Osborn, Class of 2000, recently graduated from California State Univeristy in San Marcos, CA.  She received her degree in Elementary Education and will begin teaching soon.  She is married and is an avid triathlete, cyclist, and runner.

Brian DeBerry, Class of 1994, is the Assistant Principal and Activites/Athletic Director at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
