Empowering Students to Impact the World since 1970

ELCA Theater

Eagle's Landing Christian Academy's award-winning theatre program provides students in both Middle School and High School, with a creative and multi-faceted learning program in the theatrical arts.   This program not only provides a high quality level of standardized theatrical classroom instruction, but also provides many opportunities for live stage performances, both at home in our state of the art 1,800 seat theater facility, but also a series of annual shows performed on the road.   Eagles Landing Christian Academy also has a High School Theatre Honor Society, sponsored by and developed through a relationship with the International Thespian Society (ITS).  ELCA theater students can earn eligibility to join these honor societies through active participation in ELCA live theatrical performances and by joining our very active ITS Troupe.

In Middle School, students are introduced to theater.  They begin by learning and studying the foundations of theater, i.e. history, styles, applications, genres; as well as basic theatrical  terms and stage directions.  Their studies  will cover all aspects of theatrical performance and direction, to include but not limited to — the script, the music, the orchestration, the choreography, the actors, the audience, casting, crew management, stage management, set construction, prop management, costuming and make-up,  play direction,  play production,  and even play promotion.  Every middle school student will also be required to perform in at least two different  stage theatrical performances performed live annually at  ELCA.  Our Middle School theater department has already performed some great classic shows such as Disney's Mulan Jr., Disney's The Lion King Jr., and the stage classic Oliver.

In the High School Theater Program, we offer a diverse program of study geared toward the more experienced honors high school thespian.  Novice theater students are welcomed, but they need to be very serious about this course of study and be ready to work hard.  High School theater students are provided with many opportunities for practical experience on the stage, with ample opportunities to perform in front of large audiences via the multiple and varied theatrical performances ELCA produces every year.  Our High School Theater department has performed many great state classics, including; Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Annie, Oliver, Steel Magnolia's, and A Few Good Men.   Additionally,  ELCA provides many opportunities to not only perform but to actually compete in a variety of theatrical festivals and drama competitions that go on around the state each year.   Multiple live stage performances will be at the backbone of the teaching and learning strategy for the High School theater course.  Finally, all high school  theater students  must attend at least one of  the professional theater conventions that we travel to each year, i.e.; either the Georgia Thespian Conference or ThesCon (ITS).

Students that successfully complete this course of study will be prepared to continue their theatrical performing arts career or any education related goals they may have in theatre.  The  graduated theater student will have excellent  work habits and  time management skills.  They will also have mastered the ability to speak and perform comfortably in front of large groups of people.  Ultimately, they will be better prepared to succeed in any field of endeavor they may choose.   Above all, however, it is our ultimate desire to train young people to glorify God through excellence in the performing arts.  We believe that the art's, especially the performing arts, are at the epicenter of influence in our culture today.  Now, more than ever, Christians need to be leading the way in setting the standards for performing arts, and demanding a high level of quality, creativity, and excellence.
