Ebola and Enterovirus-D68

In response to recent media reports regarding Ebola and EV-D68, we want to remind our parents and students of our preparedness strategies in dealing with the threat of contagions on our campus. ELCA submits to the recommendations and guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the matters of infectious illnesses. As of this time, the CDC has not recommended any supplementary actions in the prevention of the spread of infectious diseases and viruses other than protocols that are already in place. ELCA's Director of Operations is fully aware of the protocols concerning cleaning and disinfecting and ensures that these procedures are carried out. We also maintain communication with authorities and remain vigilant to ensure compliance when recommendations change.

We encourage parents and students to continue to follow the guidelines below, which are the best way to prevent the spread of illness.

  • Students must be fever free (less than 100, un-medicated) and vomiting / diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school. Un-medicated means that no drugs such as Motrin, Advil or Tylenol have been given.
  • Students should not return to school after having had a documented fever or vomiting / diarrhea in the previous 24 hours or have been ill with the same at home in the previous 24 hours.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Do not touch body fluids of people who are sick
  • Do not handle items that may have come into contact with a sick person's body fluids like clothes, writing utensils, etc.
